Sullivan County Rear End Crash Injures One

Sullivan County-This afternoon at 12:16, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a three vehicle crash on State Road 48 just east of Thomas Street in Shelburn. The crash injured one driver.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Freightliner tractor pulling a grain hauler, driven by 42-year-old Ross Mize of Carlisle, IN., was stopped westbound on SR 48 for a passing train. A blue 2006 Dodge Dakota, driven by 75-year-old Thomas Russell of Shelburn, IN., was stopped behind the tractor-trailer. A third vehicle, white 2008 Pontiac G6, driven by 50-year-old Michael Jones of Fairbanks, IN., was approaching the stopped traffic and failed to stop, striking the Russell vehicle in the rear and forcing it into the rear of the tractor-trailer.

Michael Jones and his wife Sherry were examined at the scene and released. Thomas Russell was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment of pain. Ross Mize reported no injuries. Michael Jones was cited for speed too fast to avoid a collision.

The tractor-trailer unit was operated under Keith Deckard Trucking of Sullivan, IN.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Mike Taylor. Assisting were ISP Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan County EMS, Carlisle EMS, and Thunderbird Fire/Rescue.
