Coats Congratulates Indianapolis’ Luke Dennen on Acceptance to United States Naval Academy

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today congratulated Luke Dennen of Indianapolis on his acceptance into the United States Naval Academy. Coats nominated Luke, a senior at Cathedral High School, for an appointment to Annapolis.

“There is no higher calling for an American citizen than to wear the uniform of the United States Armed Forces,” said Coats. “I congratulate Luke on this distinguished honor and believe his talents and abilities will make him an outstanding midshipman. I look forward to hearing of his continued success.”

Dennen is captain of the Cathedral High School lacrosse team and has verbally committed to play lacrosse at the United States Naval Academy.

About Academy Nominations:
Individuals interested in attending a U.S. service academy may apply for and receive nominations from both their U.S. Representative and their two U.S. Senators. Applicants may also apply to the Vice President of the United States, who can nominate applicants at large.

To assist in selecting the most qualified candidates, Coats formed an academy selection committee to review each application packet he received and to select the top applicants for interviews. These interviews were conducted in November, and Coats nominated final candidates earlier this year.
