INDIANAPOLIS- The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate a person shot on the city’s southwest side earlier this evening.
Just after 7:30 p.m. on 11.9.17 officers with the Southwest district were responding to a shots fired run in the 5700 block of Port Au Prince. Officers arrived on scene and located a female with and apparent gunshot wound. Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) responded to the scene. IEMS transported the victim to Eskenazi hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and immediately began canvassing the area for information. The Indianapolis – Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the victim can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
