Man Arrested After Speeding Through Closed Construction Zone then Fleeing Police

Indianapolis, IN – An Illinois man is under arrest tonight after driving into a closed area of I-70 then fleeing when troopers tried to stop him. Today, at 3:39 p.m., Master Trooper Antwaun Johnson was sitting inside a construction zone on I-70 eastbound near the 111.3 mile marker when he saw a silver Cadillac drive around the concrete barriers and into the closed area of the road. Interstate 70 eastbound is completely closed for temporary construction east of the I-70 / I-65 north split. When Trooper Johnson attempted to stop the vehicle the driver sped away in the construction area. Thankfully no workers were injured as the Cadillac drove through the zone. Troopers pursued the vehicle until a Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to successfully deploy stop sticks east of Mount Comfort Road on I-70. After the suspect’s tire deflated he pulled to the shoulder and surrendered without incident.

While driving through the construction area, the suspect drove through several freshly poured concrete patches and nearly struck some workers who heard the trooper’s siren and were able to move to safety. 63 year old Ross Radke of Ludlow Illinois was arrested on the preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness with Endangerment and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, both are felonies. He was transported to the Marion County Jail and incarcerated.

Any crime mentioned above is alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. All charges listed in this release are merely accusations, formal and/or additional charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
