INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Town of Plainfield received State Finalist status and a special Quality Based Selection (QBS) Award for engineering excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana.
The award was made in recognition of the Public Safety Guaranteed Savings Contract that included the Plainfield Fire Department Headquarters Buildings, Fire Station 122, and Moon Road Improvements. The Town of Plainfield constructed the Plainfield Fire Department Headquarters Building, Fire Station 122, and the Moon Road Improvements as part of an overall Public Safety Facility Guaranteed Savings Contract. The Headquarters Building is a 14,830 square foot building that contains the administrative offices for the Fire Department, a drive-through apparatus bay, and large conference room. Fire Station 122 is a 20,418 square foot drive-through 3-bay fire station with training features that includes 12 individual dormitory spaces, a fitness room, study and media rooms, a full-service kitchen, conference rooms, and a dispatch center. The Moon Road improvements included half a mile of full depth road replacement and associated storm sewers.
The special QBS Award is presented to one project in Indiana in recognition of outstanding use of Quality Based Selection. The Town of Plainfield utilized Qualification Based Selection for all facets of the design and construction of the project. The Guaranteed Savings Contract method was utilized to select the Contractor for the project and the Town’s past experience in working with the design and oversight firms and seeing their qualifications first-hand was instrumental in selecting the Project Team. The Project Team included Butler Fairman & Seufert (Contract Administrators), CR Architecture + Design (Architect), Albertson & Son (Owner’s Representative), and Bowen Engineering Corporation (GSC Provider).
“It’s great to be recognized for the engineering of the project and the overall collaboration,” said Chief of Plainfield Fire Territory, Joel Thacker. “These are projects the citizens of the Town should be proud of. When the community sees these facilities—ones that will be used to serve the community for decades to come—they see beautiful, strategically-located, quality buildings.”
The awards are presented each year by ACEC Indiana to recognize an outstanding engineering achievement that demonstrates a high degree of merit and ingenuity.
“The Town is a very progressive community—in how we do things and what we accomplish—I can’t say enough about the staff we have here,” said Robin Brandgard, the Town of Plainfield Town Council President.
