State Police Make Arrest in Putnam County Shooting Case

Putnam County—Late this afternoon, Indiana State Police arrested a homeowner after a nearly two-week investigation into a rural Putnam County shooting at 7645 South State Road 243, Cloverdale, IN. The arrest occurred at the ISP Putnamville Post.

Arrested:         Robert E. Young, age 59, of the address

Charge:          Attempted Voluntary Manslaughter (Level 2 felony)

Aggravated Battery (Level 3 felony)

Criminal Confinement (Level 3 felony)

Pointing a Firearm (Level 6 felony)

Incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail

During the ISP investigation, Detective Don Anglin was able to determine that a disturbance over scaffolding on March 25, 2016, resulted in Robert E. Young allegedly discharging a 9 millimeter handgun in the direction of a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by the victim, Jeffrey DeWayne Perkins, age 59, of Greencastle, IN. The round traveled through the rear window striking Perkins in the head. Perkins was airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis in serious condition, where he remains today undergoing treatment. Perkins was allegedly attempting to leave the residence when the event occurred.

Assisting were ISP Detectives First Sergeant Jason Fajt and Michael Featherling and the Office of Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter.
