IMPD Officers investigate person assaulted on North side

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a call of a possible burglary in progress in the 9100 Block Crystal River Dr at approximately 8:10 a.m., located on the North side of Indianapolis.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a male suspect, later identified as 44-year-old Indianapolis resident Joseph Galdun, armed with a Samurai sword. The suspect complied with officers verbal commands and was taken into custody immediately. It was later determined that the suspect had broken into the apartment, and was confronted by the resident.  The resident struck the armed suspect with a golf club after the suspect had swung the sword at him. The resident then called the police. The resident received a small laceration to the arm and was treated at the scene and released.

The suspect was believed to be intoxicated or suffering from some type of neurological disorder. EMS crews responded and the suspect was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition. The suspect is likely to face preliminary criminal charges and is also being evaluated by Hospital Staff for neurological disorders due to his erratic behavior. IMPD detectives responded and are investigating.
