IMPD and IFD responds to body found in White River

INDIANAPOLIS –  The Marion County Coroner’s Office is investigating after boaters find a body in the White River.

Just before 9:00 a.m., officers were sent to N. White River Pkwy W Dr and W New York St on a body in the White River. The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and IMPD responded and discovered what appeared to be a torso of a male. IFD removed the body and brought it to the river banks.

Detectives discovered a distinctive tattoo on the victim’s back that reads “Only God Can Judge Me”. The man has been identified as 44-year-old James Rice.

Detectives are continuing to seek answers in the death of Mr. Rice and his case is currently classified as a death investigation.

Presently the Marion County Coroner’s Office will investigate this case until a determination is made on cause and manner of death.  Additionally, MCCO will make the positive identification at the appropriate time.
