IMPD homicide investigators arrest suspect for her involvement in the death of victim on Birch Avenue

INDIANAPOLIS – On March 2, 2018 at approximately 5:49 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to the 800 block of Birch Avenue reference a person shot. When officers arrived on scene they located an adult female later identified as Marissa Huffman and an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound identified as Joshua Tye. Mr. Tye was treated on scene but succumb to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by medics.

Homicide detectives responded to the incident scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. At the conclusion of interviewing Ms. Huffman, investigators arrested her and preliminarily charged her with murder. Furthermore, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. Additionally, the Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to the scene to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.

A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
