INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives announce arrest of Perise Fowler (43), who was wanted on a murder warrant for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Byron Miller (39).
Just after 12:30 a.m. on 10/23/2018, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 500 block of N Rural St. in response to a caller stating someone had been shot. There were other calls made around this time from citizens who heard shots fired in the area. Responding officers located a person suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Byron Miller, was transported to an area hospital where they later died.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.
During the course of the investigation, Homicide detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of Perise Fowler for murder. An arrest warrant was applied for and granted. The IMPD Violent Crimes Unit coordinated with the U.S. Marshals, who located Fowler in Alabama, where he was arrested on 12/04/2018 and will be awaiting extradition to Indianapolis to face a murder charge and two charges of felony battery.
