INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide Unit have arrested two suspects for allegedly killing a man and critically injuring his female passenger on July 19, 2016, just after 12:00 a.m. in the 3300 block of Robson Street.

Detectives investigated and determined a possible link to yet another robbery and shooting that happened on yet the same day (July 19, 2016), at about 3:30 a.m., in the 1400 block of Wallace Avenue. Officers there found three people who had been shot. One victim was listed in serious condition, and the other two victims were listed in stable condition.

Again on July 19, 2016, just after 4:00 a.m. officers were called to the 4000 block of East 12th Street to a person shot. The person shot in that incident was later identified as 16-year-old Zion Smith who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the right eye. Found with the suspect was 18-year-old Jaquisha Love who was taken into custody for narcotics possession. Detectives subsequently learned that the suspect Zion Smith was not shot on 12th Street but was likely shot on Wallace Street during an exchange of gunfire with the victims in the incident mentioned above.

During the investigation, detectives were able to link the pair to yet another robbery and shooting that happened the day before (July 18, 2016), in the area of 3500 block of East 10th Street. The male suspect is alleged to have shot at the victim several times; however, the victim in this incident, thankfully, escaped injury.

Through collaboration across several investigative units and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, formal charges were filed against the suspects to include, but not limited to, murder, several attempt murders, and several robberies. Suspect Zion Smith was arrested on adult charges.
