Homicide detectives make an arrest in the tragic death of teenage siblings

INDIANAPOLIS-Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrest a juvenile male for his involvement in a double homicide on the city’s northeast side.

Just before 7:30 a.m., on August 23, 2019, Officers of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to 4135 Windhill Dr. on a person shot.  Officers located 15-year-old Ashlynn Nelson and her brother 16-year-old Nicholas Nelson inside the residence with apparent gunshot wounds.  IEMS responded to the location and pronounced both deceased at the scene.  Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Just as the initial officers drove up a male proceeded to run from the officers.  A foot pursuit ensued and the IMPD SWAT team, K-9 officers and the IMPD Drone searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death.

On August 26, 2019 Just after 12:30 p.m. homicide detectives arrested a 15-year-old male for his involvement in these homicides.  The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.
