WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today congratulated Mitchell Stiffler of Indianapolis on his acceptance into the United States Military Academy. Coats nominated Stiffler, a senior at Cathedral High School, for an appointment to West Point.
“There is no higher calling for an American citizen than to wear the uniform of the United States Armed Forces,” said Coats. “I congratulate Mitchell on this distinguished honor and believe his talents and abilities will make him an outstanding cadet. I look forward to hearing of his continued success.”
Stiffler is a member of the Cathedral High School varsity cross country team and is an Eagle Scout.
About Academy Nominations:
Individuals interested in attending a U.S. service academy may apply for and receive nominations from both their U.S. Representative and their two U.S. Senators. Applicants may also apply to the Vice President of the United States, who can nominate applicants at large.
To assist in selecting the most qualified candidates, Coats formed an academy selection committee to review each application packet he received and to select the top applicants for interviews. These interviews were conducted in November, and Coats nominated final candidates earlier this year.
