Hendricks County prepares for Bicentennial celebrations with multiple endorsed events approved this month

The Hendricks County Bicentennial was announced this past January and ideas for events and projects have poured in but perhaps none as county-wide and unique as those endorsed by the Bicentennial Committee in May.

Activities range from the Hendricks County Bar Association’s member photo on the Courthouse steps on May 22 to the annual Summer Fun Run and Walk series hosted by the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County and featuring a Bicentennial themed kick off event on May 29.

The Town of Amo is joining in the celebration in several ways. Not only will the annual Fish Fry, June 6-8 have a 200 theme, the town is also working on converting a portion of the historical Interurban building into a History Museum.

Other endorsed activities include the Hendricks Symphony concert on June 30 at Hendricks Live! The performance is entitled “Star Spangled Spectacular” and in honor of the Bicentennial, official logo buttons will be distributed to the audience.

From Brownsburg to Plainfield, other groups and organizations have been creative in offering unique experiences for residents of Hendricks County.

Over the week of July 15, the Avon – Washington Township Public Library will offer a Pioneer Escape Room for youth, grades five through 12.

The Brownsburg Parks Department will host a Bicentennial History Hike on Aug. 10. A park naturalist will guide participants through a time-traveling adventure while sharing Brownsburg’s history over the past 200 years.

Finally, Plainfield’s annual Quaker Day Parade on Sept. 21 has been officially endorsed by the Bicentennial Committee and will feature the theme, “In Our Plainfield Era, Then and Now”.

It’s not too late. Not only is the Bicentennial Committee looking for volunteers for their signature events such as the Hendricks County Rib Fest and BBQ and upcoming 4-H Fair, they’re still accepting applications for events and projects with a Bicentennial theme for official endorsement.

Submit your project or event for endorsement on the Bicentennial website or sign up to volunteer at Hendricks200.com.

The Bicentennial Steering Committee exists to support and encourage the Hendricks County community in their efforts to celebrate our community’s past, present and future. For more information, visit Hendricks200.com or email Hendricks200th@gmail.com.
