Avon, Ind. – The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced that 10 Avon High School (AHS) Students have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. Ethen Chen, Julia Harmon, Katherine Langford, Ian Lynam, Jackson McCarthy, Victor Ogunsanya, Tyler Pierce, Maxwell Stewart, Zainab Syed, and Hannah Taylor earned this honor on the basis of the exceptional academic promise they demonstrated in their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry. AHS Principal Matt Shockley will present these scholastically talented students with Letters of Commendation from the school and NMSC.
“I am exceptionally proud of these students,” said Shockley. “As inspired students, engaged learners, and empowered citizens, they embody the mission of Avon High School.”
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
