WalletHub Study Finds Indiana Is the State with the Best Unemployment Rate Recovery

With the U.S. gaining 678,000 jobs in February, exceeding the previous month’s 481,000 jobs, WalletHub today released updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Rates Are Bouncing Back Most, along with accompanying videos and audio files, to illustrate which areas of the country have had the best recovery so far.

In order to identify the states whose unemployment rates are bouncing back most, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on six key metrics that compare unemployment rate statistics from the latest month for which data is available (February 2022) to key dates in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

  • -34.62% Change in Unemployment (February 2022 vs February 2019)
    • 75,218 unemployed people in February 2022 vs 115,054 in February 2019;
    • The best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -33.89% Change in Unemployment (February 2022 vs January 2020)
    • 75,218 unemployed people in February 2022 vs 113,785 in January 2020;
    • The best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -34.41% Change in Unemployment (February 2022 vs February 2020)
    • 75,218 unemployed people in February 2022 vs 114,677 in February 2020;
    • The best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • -48.02% Change in Unemployment (February 2022 vs February 2021)
    • 75,218 unemployed people in February 2022 vs 144,715 in February 2021;
    • 2nd best recovery in the U.S.
       
  • 31.76% Change in Not Seasonally Adjusted Continued Claims (February 2022 vs February 2019)
    • 29,085 continued claims in February 2022 vs 22,075 in February 2019;
    • The worst recovery in the U.S.
       
  • 2.3% Unemployment Rate (February 2022)
    • 3rd lowest unemployment rate in the U.S.
