Truck Inspection in Vigo County leads to Semi Driver Arrested for DUI and Drugs

Vigo County – February 9, 2021, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Trooper Gerald Stump was working at the Interstate 70 Terre Haute scales conducting federal DOT inspections, when a semi-tractor trailer pulled into the scale facility for a level one safety check.  The driver was identified as Edward R. Evans, age 50, of Granite City, Illinois.  Suspicious activity was immediately detected, and a search of the vehicle was conducted by Trooper Stump.  Trooper Stump located methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.  Further investigation by Trooper Stump also revealed that Evans displayed signs of impairment and a failed sobriety test.  Evans refused to submit to a certified chemical test.  Evans was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.

Arrested and Charges:  Edward R. Evans, 50, Granite City

  • Possession of methamphetamine, Felony 6, 
  • Possession of cocaine, Felony 6
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, Class A misdemeanor
  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Class C misdemeanor 
  • Possession of paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor

Assisting:  Sergeant Chris Wright and Trooper Courtland Woodruff of the Putnamville State Police Post and Lambert’s Towing Service.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
