Trooper Escapes Injury in Crash While Responding to Call

The Indiana State Police are investigating a crash involving a trooper from the Indianapolis Post.  The crash happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. Friday evening on Kentucky Avenue near the intersection of Mann Road on the southwest side of Indianapolis.  The trooper’s car was struck by another vehicle while he was responding to the call of a pursuit.

Trooper Nathan Parton

Officers arrived to find Trooper Nathan Parton entrapped in his vehicle.  The collision forced his car off the road and into a tree line where it came to a rest.  The driver of the other car, 19 year-old Seth Russell Joshua Crandall, was not injured in the crash.  Witness accounts state that Parton was southbound on Kentucky Avenue with his lights and siren on passing Crandall in the right lane when Crandall changed lanes striking Parton sending his vehicle out of control.

As a precautionary matter, Parton was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital to be checked out for minor injuries.  Parton has been with the state police since 2015.  Crandall was not injured in the crash.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
