Town of Brownsburg Food Drive Now Underway

BROWNSBURG – The Town of Brownsburg kicked off its annual “Let’s Give” food drive Monday to help a local pantry keep shelves stocked with non-perishable items through the holiday season.

Town staff encourages the community’s support of the canned and boxed items collection so area families in need can keep meals on the table. Donations can be made in the Brownsburg Town Hall lobby, 61 N. Green Street, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, November 5 through December 1. Donations may also be dropped off during Christmas Under the Stars on December 1.

The collection will be delivered to the Messiah Lutheran Food Pantry, which serves more than 1500 Hendricks County families. The pantry distributes 40 to 60 boxes of food each Saturday morning, with the greatest need in November and December.

Hunger is an issue even here in the suburbs. Nearly 2,200 Hendricks County households receive SNAP benefits and may not always have enough to feed their families.  We’re counting on residents, businesses and civic organizations to help make sure our neighbors in need don’t go without a meal.

Messiah Lutheran Church pantry volunteer Jon Jordan said, “The  Messiah Lutheran Church food pantry is so very thankful for the support we receive year around from the Town of Brownsburg and the caring folks of our town. This time of year when the need picks up we all step up, and together we serve God and our neighbor in their time of need.”

The 2017 food drive collected more than 5,000 items. The following items are suggested:

• Cereal and oatmeal
• Peanut butter
• Canned meat, chicken and tuna
• Canned or dry soup
• Canned fruit, vegetables and beans
• Boxed/canned potatoes
• Macaroni & cheese, rice and pasta
• Pasta sauce
