Sullivan County—This morning at the Sullivan County Courthouse, Sullivan County Prosecutor John Springer generously provided Putnamville troopers with equipment purchased through his office. The equipment was issued to five troopers, one detective, and one supervisor primarily assigned to Sullivan County.
While the Indiana State Police provides every piece of equipment troopers need, occasionally it is nice to have additional items to use off-duty. Items purchased and issued today were web gear gun belts, holsters, handcuff cases, ballistic steel plated vests, and additional small miscellaneous items. These items will be carried in the trooper’s vehicles and immediately available responding to an off-duty emergency.
“The job of being a police officer is an exceptionally difficult and dangerous one. Officer safety is of the utmost importance. I am fortunate to be in a position where I can direct that funds be provided for state of the art bullet proof vests to provide the police the best protection available while they put everything on the line to protect us, the public”, commented Sullivan County Prosecutor John Springer.
“Our troopers often respond to a variety of off-duty situations, which at times, involves armed suspects. So seeing an area he could enhance through simple generosity, Prosecutor Springer went above the call of duty and purchased these items to allow additional protection for our troopers”, said ISP Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald, squad supervisor for troopers serving Sullivan County.
