WHAT
Events at three different sites on Wednesday, Dec. 16, to kick off a year-long celebration leading to the 100th anniversary of Indiana State Parks on Dec. 16, 2016. They are collectively titled “Countdown to 100: Centennial Celebration Launch.”
SCHEDULE
McCormick’s Creek State Park: 7 a.m., a traditional 1916-era breakfast, after which representatives of Indiana State Parks and the Indiana Bicentennial Commission will speak. Becky Skillman, co-chair of the Bicentennial Commission, is the planned feature speaker.
The Statehouse: Noon. First Lady Karen Pence will talk about the State Parks centennial and how it relates to the state’s bicentennial. Hand-on demonstrations will be offered by interpretive naturalists.
Turkey Run State Park: At 4 p.m. representatives of Indiana State Parks and the Indiana Bicentennial Commission will talk about the State Parks centennial and how it relates to the state’s bicentennial. Mary McConnell, bicentennial commissioner and director of The Nature Conservancy in Indiana is the speaker.
