Sheriff Kerry Forestal is pleased to announce that the City-County
Council, through the Rules and Public Policy Committee, has approved an
agreement to provide a salary increase for Marion County 911 operators from
$31,202 to $34,320 for new hires in 2019, and 2% raises for 2020 and 2021.
Previously, salaries for Marion County 911 operators had lagged surrounding
counties by $3,000 to $11,000 per year.
Sheriff Kerry Forestal: “Our 911 operators do incredibly difficult work,
handling over 1 million 911 calls each year, and dispatching runs for over 20
law enforcement agencies, including IMPD, yet they make significantly less than
their counterparts in every surrounding county. This raise for 911 operators is
a significant step in the right direction to solve the staffing crisis
currently facing our 911 Center. I am grateful to the Committee and the
City-County Council for their support of this agreement and salary increase,
and highly encourage anyone who is interested in serving their community as a
911 operator to apply today.”
