IMPD Downtown District Narcotics Unit undercover operation produces arrests for dealing and possession of synthetic narcotics

INDIANAPOLIS- On January 3,2019 detectives from The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Downtown District conducted an undercover operation in response to synthetic narcotic overdoses that occurred in the downtown area in 2018. 
Detectives have been gathering intelligence for some time and they found the downtown dealers appear to be organizing in an effort to avoid being detected by police. According to detectives the dealers have become more transient since a No-Trespassing-Order is being enforced in The American Legion Park in cooperation with state and local authorities in downtown Indianapolis. Detectives have also seen dealers using commercial scooters as a means to navigate the downtown area with more mobility. 
On January 3rd, detectives arrested three individuals who they believe are dealing synthetic narcotics in the downtown area of Indianapolis:

Akeem Montgomery


32-year-old Akeem Montgomery...Arrested for Dealing in a controlled substance. 

Larry Spencer

42-year-old Larry Spencer… Arrested for obstruction of justice and possesssion of a controlled substance. 

Johnny Gilson

47-year-old Johnny Gilson… Warrant arrest for possession of a controlled substance.  Additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.

During this undervcover operation IMPD Detectives also arrested five other individuals with active warrants. 
A copy of the Probable Cause Affidavits can be obtained through the Marion County Prosecutors Office.

A charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
