Secretary of State Connie Lawson is helping students spot scams at Junior Achievement’s BizTown

Indiana Secretary of StateINDIANAPOLIS (June 15, 2016) — Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson is teaching kids how to spot an investment scam at Junior Achievement’s BizTown Summer Camp on Thursday, June 16 at 9:15 a.m. BizTown campers were given a high pressure pitch to invest in a new company that promised big returns on their principal investment earlier this week, but the investment opportunity was a mock scam. Secretary Lawson will use the scam to teach BizTown campers how to identify fraudulent investments.

Junior Achievement’s BizTown Summer Camp is an academic learning camp that helps students connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. Through hands-on activities in this simulated community, students develop a strong understanding of how to successfully participate in a worldwide economy.
