Seat Belt Violation Leads to Discovery of Drugs and Syringes

Clay County – May 24, 2020, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Master Trooper Todd Brown was patrolling on Interstate 70 near the 19-mile marker, when he stopped a 1997 Ford pickup truck for the driver failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to display a registration plate.  The driver was identified as Jon D. Pastorius, age 29, of Brazil, Indiana.  Criminal activity was detected, and a free air sniff was conducted by Trooper Kyle Halls’ K-9, Barker.  Barker generated a positive indication for the presence of narcotics.  During the vehicle search it was discovered that Pastorius had methamphetamine and 43 hypodermic syringes in his possession.  A driver’s license check revealed that Pastorius was also a habitual traffic violator.  Pastorius was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail where he is currently being detained.
