Plainfield Man Arrested after Intimidating Motorist

Putnam County—Sunday evening at approximately 7:27, Indiana State Police Region V Dispatch Center alerted troopers to a possible road rage incident that was ongoing along westbound Interstate 70 from the 56 mile marker in Morgan County.

Preliminary investigation revealed a young mother and her two children, ages six and eleven, were westbound Interstate 70 passing a semi, when another motorist traveling at a high rate speed, approached the rear of her SUV and began tailgating. After passing the semi, the suspect driving his Volkswagen Beetle, pulled alongside the SUV and allegedly pointed a handgun at the female. The mother ordered her children to get down and she dialed 911 for help.

Troopers Kyle Hall and James Crisp located the suspect Volkswagen still traveling and harassing the westbound SUV at the 43mm. (Putnam County). A traffic stop was initiated and during a search of the Volkswagen, troopers located two loaded handguns near the driver’s area. Coupled with the found weapons and other investigative information, Jonathon G. Wiseman, age 26, of Plainfield, IN. was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with felony Intimidation and incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail. Wiseman did possess an Indiana handgun permit, but this does not authorize the permittee to indiscriminately point the weapon(s) at other citizens without just cause.

Trooper Kyle was the arresting officer. Trooper James Crisp assisted.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
