INDIANAPOLIS –On March 24, 2018, at 8:14 p.m., Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to Meijer grocery store located on the 5300 block of Pike Plaza Road on a report of a person shot. Officers located an unresponsive male later identified as Steven L. Wills with an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot of the business.
Medics arrived a short time later and pronounced Wills as deceased. Witnesses told police they observed Wills arguing with an unknown subject inside the business. The argument moved outside the business culminating with shot(s) fired.
Homicide detectives were called to the scene, and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. IMPD Homicide Detectives arrested 19 year-old Cedric Cooper of Indianapolis IN and charged him with Voluntary Manslaughter for his involvement in the murder of Steven L. Wills. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and not a random act. IMPD Homicide investigators began canvassing the area for additional witnesses or anyone with information that will aid investigators in solving this case.
The Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the victim can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
