Vigo County – July 20, 2020, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Indiana State Police began an investigation into a possible pool drowning that occurred at a Terre Haute residence, sending one subject to a local Terre Haute hospital.

Yesterday afternoon, troopers from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and deputies from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department responded to an address on Old Fort Harrison Avenue after receiving a report that a male subject had been found in a pool unresponsive.

Matthew Conrad, age 54, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was conducting pool maintenance at a home in which he was house sitting, and was attempting to put the cover back over the pool.  Conrad’s fiance was inside the residence and came to check on him, but found him located in the pool unresponsive.  Conrad was immediately pulled from the pool and lifesaving first aid was performed on Conrad while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.  Conrad was then transported to Union Hospital for further treatment.

On the morning of July 21, 2020, Conrad succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
