On February 12, 2016, at approximately 8:47 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 3400 block of South Lynhurst Drive on the report of a person shot.  Upon arrival, officers located 35-year-old Patrick Brown and 38-year-old Cecilia Land suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers were able to detain 26-year-old Rebecca Lawson, who called 911 indicating she was responsible for the shooting.  Both victims were transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Despite best life-saving efforts of medical staff at the hospital, Brown was pronounced deceased a short time later.  Cecilia Land remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Detectives allege Rebecca Lawson drove past Patrick Brown’s residence and noticed Cecilia Land’s vehicle parked outside.  Lawson communicated with Brown to retrieve property from inside the residence and became upset knowing Land was inside. Lawson then shot both victims after a disturbance outside of the residence.  After the shooting, Lawson called 911 and peacefully surrendered to arriving officers. Lawson was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder and attempted murder and transported to the Arrestee Processing Center. A final charging decision will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
