IMPD is investigating after a man is shot and killed on the city’s east side

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 26-year-old man on the city’s east side.

Just before 10:00 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were sent to the 3000 block of Bavarian East Drive (Bavarian Village Apartments) reference a  person shot.  When officers arrived, they found the victim, inside the backseat of a vehicle, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.  EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased. The victim has been identified but detectives have not yet released his name.

Detectives believe that the victim may have been shot at another location inside the apartment complex and fled to the car. Detectives have not yet released suspect information but are following-up on several promising leads. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is processing the crime scene for forensic evidence, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office will positively identify the victim after an autopsy is performed.

Additional officers arrived at the scene to assist with crime scene management as several grieving community members begin to express anger and grief toward the victim’s death.
