A single vehicle hit-and-run crash kills a passenger and injures a second

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Accident Investigators are investigating a single vehicle hit-and-run crash that has killed one passenger and injured a second.

Just before 3:30 a.m., officers were sent to the 1100 blk. of Norton Ave. reference a single vehicle crash with possible injuries. When officers arrived,  they found a black SUV in the front yard of 1135 Norton Ave., occupied by two passengers, one of which was unresponsive. The SUV had sustained significant damage to the passenger side from what appeared to be the SUV striking a brick pillar. EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the male passenger deceased at the scene.  The second passenger was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver was identified only as a white male in his 20’s or 30’s that left the scene before officers arrived.

Detectives have not yet released a causation of the accident and because the driver fled it is not known if alcohol is a contributing factor. The deceased passenger has not yet been positively identified. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will positively identify and ensure the victim’s family has been notified. If additional information becomes available this release may be updated.
