IMPD investigates a shooting that has left one man dead and another injured

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that has left one man dead and another injured.

Just after 12:00 p.m., officers were sent to the 5900 blk. of Cedar Lake Dr. reference a shots fired run. When officers arrived, inside a home they found one unresponsive and unidentified adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. EMS personnel arrived and pronounced the male victim deceased. Moments later officers were sent to the 5200 blk. of Garamy Ct. on the report of a second person shot. Officers arrived and found the second person outside on the porch of uninvolved house conscious but suffering from at least one gunshot wound. This injured person was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition. The injured person arrived in a vehicle just prior to officers finding him outside on the porch of the house, and the driver of that vehicle was taken down to IMPD Headquarters for questioning. Detectives believe the two incidents are related.

Officers gathered investigative information that led them to investigate a likely involved vehicle around the 5300 blk. of Lakeside Manor Dr. The vehicle looked to have sustained new damage consistent with damage at the ordinal shooting scene on Ceader Lake Dr. No occupants of that vehicle were found. Several other occupants of the house were taken down to IMPD Headquarters for questioning. It is believed that a small child was inside the house at the time of the shooting but the child was thankfully unharmed. At this time, it is believed some or all of the involved individuals knew one another and the incident is not considered to be a random occurrence.  The Marion County Coroner’s Office will work to determine a cause and manner of death after an autopsy is performed. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency has processed the scene for forensic evidence and detectives are following-up on investigative information. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 (TIPS).
