IMPD homicide detectives investigate the death of a woman on the city’s east side of town

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Unit are investigating the death of a woman found on the city’s east side Monday.

Just before 10:00 AM, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were sent to the 1400 blk. of Campbell Avenue on the report of an unresponsive woman found behind a dumpster. When officers arrived, they found the victim who was pronounced deceased on the scene.

At this time, detectives are investigating this incident as a death investigation as they await an official cause of death from the Marion County Coroner’s Office. The woman who was found deceased on the City’s East side has been identified as 18-year-old Renia Woods. The Coroner is awaiting toxicology reports before a cause of death is determined.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform an autopsy that may determine a cause and manner of death in the coming days. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327 – 3475.
