IMPD homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that has killed one man and injured another in the 3500 block of Commercial Drive

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are investigating a shooting that has killed one man and injured another.

At 5:50 p.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the Indiana Discount Mall in the 3500 block of Commercial Drive on the report a person shot.  When officers arrived, they were directed to the back of the business and located two males suffering from gunshot wounds. Based upon witness statements, detectives believe the two gunshot victims were involved in a physical altercation at the back of the store.  During the altercation, one of the males pulled out a handgun and shot the other male twice in the upper torso.  A third male, who witnessed the initial shooting, then pulled out a handgun and shot the male involved in the first shooting in the head. Both of the gunshot victims were transported to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment.  The male victim with the gunshot wound to the upper torso remains in critical condition at this time. The male victim, who was shot in the head, was pronounced deceased upon his arrival at the hospital. The decedent’s name will be released once next-of-kind has been notified.

Homicide detectives detained the third male for questioning, and he has fully cooperated during this investigation. Both handguns used in this incident were recovered at the scene. No arrests have been made at this time, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review this case for a final charging decision.
