IMPD Detectives Make Arrest in Recent Homicide

INDIANAPOLIS – Friday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives arrested 18-year-old Anthony Steele on the preliminary charge of murder for his alleged involvement in the death of 18-year-old, Elijah Lacey.  Steele was taken into custody by the US Marshall’s Task Force and the IMPD Violent Crimes Unit.

On Monday, May 28, 2018 Lacey was shot and killed near the intersection of E 21st St and N Post Road on the east side.  IMPD homicide detectives worked diligently since then to identify those responsible.  This arrest is a significant step towards bringing Lacey’s family justice.

Detectives are still trying to identify the person seen getting out of the passenger side of the truck as seen in the video released earlier this week (link is below).  Anyone with information on the identity of that person or any other information about the case are encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers at 317.262.TIPS.

IMPD would like to thank the public and our media partners for their assistance on this case.

Formal charging decisions will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.  A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
