– Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and two others wounded.
Just after 12:00 a.m. this morning officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the 5700 block West Morris Street reference a person shot. When officers arrived, they found 45-year-old Kevin Wells, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was later transported by EMS crews to the Sidney and Louis Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition. Moments later officers found lying outside in the parking lot 36-year-old Daniel Smith of Indianapolis suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite best efforts of EMS crews, victim Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers were then sent to another nearby location reference another possible person shot. Officers arrived at a residence on South Whitcomb and found a third person shot. The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Dustin Bourne of Indianapolis, had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. He was immediately transported to Sidney and Louis Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.
Detectives recovered a handgun from the scene and are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting. Although detectives have not made an arrest, they are not looking for any additional suspects. Detectives believe a disturbance between the men could have led to the shooting.
