IMPD Detectives Arrest Man After Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS – On February 3, 2019, at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the Speedway Gas Station at 34th/ Lafayette Road on a report of person shot.  When officers arrived, they located an adult female who had been shot in the leg.  The victim was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  Aggravated Assault detectives responded to the scene and immediately began their investigation.

Through the course of the investigation officers and detectives later learned that the victim had been shot outside her residence at 2810 W 20th Street by her brother. Officers looked for the brother/suspect involved but was unable to find the alleged suspect.  A search and arrest warranted were requested and granted by a local Judge. An IMPD Evidence Technician responded and processed the crime scene.

After a detailed investigation with the use of several investigative techniques, Northwest District Detectives arrested 24-year-old Steven Mason without incident.  Mason was arrested for Possession of a Handgun by a serious violent felon warrant stemming from the shooting, and a probation violation warrant for Robbery.

A charge of a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
