IMPD detectives arrest Home Invasion Robbery suspect who was shot by victim

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) robbery detectives have arrested 38-year-old William Barnes of Indianapolis, for the home invasion that took place in the 3200 block of W Banta Rd on March 24.

Just after 12p.m. on March 24th, 2016, IMPD officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of W Banta Rd, in reference to a person shot.  Once on scene, the officers summoned EMS personnel for the suspect, who had been shot by the female resident. Aggravated Assault and Robbery detectives responded to the scene and learned that the suspect had allegedly entered the residence through a child’s bedroom window and pointed a firearm at the female resident. The resident had heard the commotion and retrieved a firearm before investigating further. Once confronted by the suspect, the resident fired at him, striking him numerous times. She then quickly summoned the police. The suspect was then transported to the hospital in stable condition to be treated for gunshot wounds.

The suspect has been charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and information on charges and a probable cause affidavit are available through that office. The suspect is currently in custody at Eskenazi Hospital.
