#HoosIN for Visit Indiana Week? 300+ reasons to visit the Hoosier State

INDIANAPOLIS (April 24, 2019) – Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development  are celebrating Visit Indiana Week in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week on May 5 through May 11, 2019.

“Tourism makes a significant contribution to Indiana’s quality of life and fiscal well-being.  As I have traveled across our great state, I have witnessed this firsthand,” Crouch said. “Visit Indiana Week is the perfect time to get out and celebrate all the wonderful things to see and do in the Hoosier State.”

Over 300 businesses and attractions around Indiana are offering discounted or free admission on one or more of the themed days during the week.

“As Hoosiers, we know Indiana’s home to a number of incredible destinations, attractions, restaurants, wineries and breweries,” said Misty Weiseinsteiner, IOTD’s executive director. “Visit Indiana Week is showcasing all of these wonderful assets, please consider this your invitation to visit.”

State Parks Sunday kicks off Visit Indiana Week with free admission to 49 Indiana Department of Natural Resources properties. Properties offering free admission include all State ParksState Forest Recreation Areas and State ORV Riding Areas owned and managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Those properties offer a combined 7,850 campsites and cabins, and more than 700 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. Read more about State Parks Sunday.

May 6 is Get Moving Monday and you’re encouraged to get out and explore the Hoosier State. From zip lines, bikes and canoes to caves, trails and nature preserves, there are numerous ways to find adventure in Indiana, and many of them are free of charge. Plan your next excursion on Get Moving Monday

Tasty Tuesday will see discounts at more than 30 restaurants and eateries around the state on May 7. From burgers, tenderloins and steak to ice cream, pie and fro-yo, Tasty Tuesday will be a culinary celebration of the Hoosier State that everyone can enjoy. Wayback Wednesday celebrates Indiana’s historical destinations with discounts at more than 60 locations around the Hoosier State on May 8. Founded in 1816, Indiana’s history dates back even further than that. From national memorials and incredible museums to military marvels and state historic sites, there are so many stories to be told and history lessons to be learned on Wayback Wednesday.

Thirsty Thursday is the perfect excuse to enjoy a craft brew, artisan spirit or local wine on May 9. A fast-growing industry, Indiana establishments annually bring home national awards for their wines, brews and spirits. With discounts at locations around the state, Thirsty Thursday is a great day to get out and sample local beverages. 

Set out for an adventure on Family Fun Friday, May 10. More than 50 attractions across the state can be enjoyed at a discount or for free in celebration of Visit Indiana Week. Outdoor adventure, indoor artistic exploration and much more await your family on Family Fun Friday.

Make dessert the main course on Sweet Saturday, May 11. Just like dessert comes at the end of a meal, Visit Indiana Week 2019 will come to a sweet conclusion with sweets available at a discount across the Hoosier State! Satisfy your sweet tooth on Sweet Saturday!
