STATEHOUSE (March 7, 2025) – Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded local communities over $6.2 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Hendricks County legislators.
“This program has helped communities across the state tackle important infrastructure projects on much faster timelines,” said State Rep. Greg Steuerwald (R-Avon). “I’m pleased this significant investment is coming to our local communities.”
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
“Hoosiers and visitors alike rely on our roads to safely reach their destinations,” said State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton). “Programs like Community Crossings are why our state is considered one of the best for infrastructure.”
Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by ConsumerAffairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.
Area grant recipients include:
- Amo, $23,912;
- Avon, $1.5 million;
- Brownsburg, $1 million;
- Danville, $318,242;
- Hendricks County, $1.5 million;
- Pittsboro, $397,546; and
- Plainfield, $1.5 million.
“Investing in our infrastructure is one of the best ways we can support local communities and prepare for future growth,” said State Rep. Craig Haggard (R-Mooresville). “These grants will help make area roadways safer and more efficient for all Hoosiers who live, work and travel in our area.”
State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
“Local roadways connect families, friends, visitors and businesses to our communities,” Cash said. “This program is a great example of our local and state governments working together to improve our infrastructure and make a difference for Hoosiers.”
