New Karting Facility To Feature Firestone Building Products

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (Dec. 9, 2015) – Firestone, a brand of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (BATO), will serve as a presenting sponsor of Speedway Indoor Karting (SIK), a state-of-the-art indoor karting center and restaurant scheduled to open in April 2016 in the heart of Speedway, Indiana.

The multi-level karting center and restaurant is a privately owned investment by Verizon IndyCar® Series team owner and Indianapolis 500® veteran Sarah Fisher and her husband, Andy O’Gara.

“I’ve enjoyed a dynamic relationship with Firestone for more than 15 years through both my roles as an Indy car driver and team owner, so it’s a pleasure and a privilege to work with them in this capacity,” Fisher said. “Drivers and teams have relied on Firestone’s combination of performance and innovation for more than 100 years, and we’re happy to associate Speedway Indoor Karting with the Firestone brand’s legacy of winning.”

In addition to the iconic tire brand’s sponsorship, commercial roofing products manufactured by Firestone Building Products Company, LLC, an Indianapolis-based subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas, Inc. (BSAM), will be used in the construction of the 62,000 square-foot facility located on 1067 Main Street in Speedway.

“The Firestone brand is engrained in the Indianapolis community through our involvement with Indy car racing and through the work of our colleagues at Firestone Building Products,” said Lisa Boggs, Director of Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. “We are proud to continue to share our brand’s heritage with the community through our involvement with Speedway Indoor Karting.”

SIK will include a 14-turn road course with multiple elevation changes and a banked oval that will be sunk into the floor to enable viewing for spectators on both floors of the facility. Each of the kart tracks will operate independently and will feature state-of-the-art karts for all skill levels. A competitive league for junior karters will provide an ideal, affordable introduction into motorsports for aspiring racers.

SIK will also include the 1911 Grill, featuring American cuisine and named after the year of the first Indianapolis 500. The restaurant will offer family dining, multiple bar and entertainment areas and covered outdoor seating on both levels of the facility. Indoor seating will include exceptional views of both kart tracks for patrons wishing to take in the exciting action.

SIK will provide a superb racing experience for the everyday person and the diehard race fan, as well as the aspiring driver. The company also will maintain its focus with clear objectives and can cater to the many businesses that search for a fresh corporate hospitality and entertainment venue. SIK will offer multiple corporate hospitality and entertainment rooms outside of the 1911 Grill.

SIK and 1911 Grill are scheduled to open in April 2016, a month before activities start for the historic 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 at nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The businesses are expected to bring 35 to 40 new jobs to Speedway.
