Failure to Wear a Seatbelt Sends One to Jail

Vigo County – At approximately 5:50 p.m., on May 7, 2019, Trooper Stump was patrolling near 1st Street and Canal Street when he stopped a Chrysler minivan for failing to wear a seat belt.  The driver was identified as Kenneth A. Calvert, 36, of Terre Haute.  A driver’s license check revealed that Calvert was a habitual traffic violator (lifetime).  Trooper Stump observed criminal indicators, and due to this fact, searched Calvert and the vehicle.  During the search, Trooper Stump discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.  Further investigation revealed that Calvert was impaired and under the influence of a controlled substance while driving.  Calvert was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

Arrested and Charges:

Operating a Vehicle after being a Habitual Traffic Violator (lifetime), Level 6 Felony

Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Level 6 Felony

Possession of Paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor

Driving While Intoxicated-Refusal, Class C Misdemeanor

Assisting Officers:  Sergeant Chris Wright, Rondell Shelton, Indiana State Police.
