STATEHOUSE (March 21, 2018) – Today, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Treasurer Kelly Mitchell and the Indiana Arts Commission hosted a reception to celebrate the 2018 Hoosier women artists at the Statehouse.

“We are celebrating one segment of the artistic fabric of our state with beautiful visual works of art, created by each of these gifted Hoosier women,” Crouch said. “I am looking forward to having the beautiful artwork displayed in my office, and am proud to lift up women artists and give them an opportunity to showcase their work for the thousands of visitors who come through the Statehouse each year.”

The Hoosier Women Artists competition was established in 2008 to celebrate the importance of the arts in Indiana’s communities and showcase the work of talented female artists throughout the state. The annual competition was announced in January, and today’s 38 honorees were selected out of more than 180 entries. The entries were juried by a panel of visual Indiana arts professionals and then selected for display by Crouch and Mitchell.

“As always, the amount of talent and creativity Hoosier women possess and display is impressive,” Mitchell said. “I am honored to celebrate their skill by displaying these beautiful works of art in our office during the coming year.”

The 38 pieces of artwork will be displayed in the offices of: Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Treasurer of State Kelly Mitchell, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Auditor of State Tera Klutz and Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick, as well as in the office of First Lady Janet Holcomb in the governor’s residence.
