BOONE AND HENDRICKS COUNTIES, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces construction will begin next week on the State Road 39 Bridge over I-65, weather permitting. Daytime lane restrictions will begin on or after Wednesday, July 8 for the contractor to overlay the bridge deck. The plan is to close the bridge after 10 p.m. Friday, July 10 and reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday. To finish construction the contractor will then close the bridge on Saturday, July 11 after 10 p.m. and reopen by noon on Sunday, July 12.
This project also includes the following bridges for thin deck overlays:
- S.R. 32 over Big Eagle Creek, located just east of U.S. 421
- S.R. 39 over Prairie Creek, located one half of one mile north of S.R. 32
- S.R. 267 over White Lick Creek, located nearly one mile south of I-65
- S.R. 32 over Isenhour Ditch, located nearly two and one half miles east of S.R. 39
- S.R. 267 over Wiley Thompson Ditch, located over three and one half miles north of I-74
HIS Constructors was awarded the $991,676 contract. Work is scheduled to be completed on all bridges by June 30, 2021.

About the Indiana Hands-Free Law
In 2019, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute reported that distracted driving from mobile devices was a factor in at least 1,263 crashes and three fatal crashes. To make Hoosier roads safer, Governor Eric J. Holcomb signed the Indiana Hands-Free law to reduce distracted driving across the state. Beginning July 1, 2020, drivers are prohibited from holding a mobile device, except in emergencies, while their vehicles are moving.
