Colts, United Way to host Big Kickoff Sept. 18

INDIANAPOLIS…September 11, 2015– Fall signals the start of both the football and philanthropic seasons. Why not a BIG KICKOFF to celebrate both?

The Indianapolis Colts and United Way of Central Indiana invite Central Indiana fans to a combined kickoff on Friday, Sept.18, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monument Circle in Indianapolis. This is the sixth year for the combined kickoffs which usually attract up to 2,000 people during lunch hour.

New this year, United Way is inviting people to Huddle Up for the Homeless by volunteering 30 minutes of their lunch hour to assemble 1,500 hygiene kits.

Street outreach workers visit with homeless neighbors in camps, under bridges or in emergency rooms to provide the kits with basic life-sustaining supplies. Then, they build relationships and connect people to services and resources to help end their homelessness. Register online http://www.uwci.org/events/thebigkickoff2015 to be part of the assembly line.

Five volunteers who’ve helped United Way advance its “New U” community strategy over the past year will also be recognized for their impact in the areas of Education, Income, Health, Basic Needs and Diversity.

The free event features live music by Dave and Rae, opportunities to find out about volunteering at United Way and its agencies, free Limited Edition Colts Kickoff posters, autographs from Colts alumni, a visit from Colts Cheerleaders and Blue, and Colts interactive inflatables.

Over the lunch hour, fans can meet Colts Cheerleaders, see the Vince Lombardi Trophy and buy $5 box lunches from Abuelo’s, with proceeds benefitting United Way’s campaign.

The event is part of a series of opportunities United Way is hosting to spread awareness about how everyone can give, advocate and volunteer to improve lives and the whole community. Visit uwci.org/events to learn more.
