Coats Statement on Collins, Johnson Gun Amendment Votes

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement after voting to advance two amendments that would prevent known terrorists from purchasing guns:

“It is vitally important to ensure that known terrorists cannot legally buy or possess guns. The two amendments the Senate considered today each attempted to address this issue while providing due process protections. While I had concerns with aspects of both amendments, each evolved throughout this week, and I voted to continue consideration of both measures because I believe a solution exists that protects Second Amendment rights and ensures terrorists cannot buy guns.”
