INDIANAPOLIS – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement regarding the recent shooting of a sheriff’s deputy in Houston and escalating violence across the United States:
“As he campaigned to be the leader of the free world, Barack Obama pledged to be a uniter-in-chief who would bring our country together. Unfortunately, today America is increasingly fractured along racial, political and economic lines, with crime and violence on the rise.
“At this critical time, we need national leaders to speak out, and I urge President Obama to use his office and influence to lead our country toward unity and healing. We need to stand together against any faction or group that believes some lives are more important than others.
“President Obama, Congressional leadership and leaders from all races and creeds should stand together to declare that every life matters and racial divisiveness must end. This is an important national moment and an opportunity for President Obama to live up to his pledge to be a uniter, not a divider.”
