Coatesville Man Dies in Crash on US 36 Near New Winchester

Danville (6/7/2023) – Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstructionists in addition to the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office are investigating a motor vehicle crash that involved a pickup truck and a semi-tractor and trailer combination carrying an oversized load.  The crash left one man dead and another man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies were called to the scene at US 36 just east of State Road 75 near New Winchester at approximately 11:15AM when the crash was reported to the Hendricks County Communications Center.  The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a blue Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound on US 36 when, for an unknown reason, the pickup truck abruptly traveled across the center line and struck a Freightliner semi- tractor and trailer carrying an oversized load.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, identified as 64-year-old Alan Blackledge of Coatesville, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the pickup truck was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threating injuries.  The driver of the semi-tractor was not injured.

It wasn’t an abrupt swerve into the center lane. I’m his daughter and I spoke directly with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department. He stated that it was a slow swerve into the center lane. My family is waiting on autopsy results. He was an extremely healthy man. The best of the best in everything that he did. Military all his life.
