INDIANAPOLIS –The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) has been selected as one of the Indy Star’s Top Workplaces for 2019, the first time a state government agency has landed this prestigious award.
This distinction, placing DOR among 15 organizations in the large company category with 500+ employees, comes from employee surveys conducted by Energage about workplace culture. All Top Workplaces rate high in areas such as organizational commitment, communication, motivation and leadership. Energage has conducted employee surveys throughout the United States since 2006, for over 57,000 organizations.
“The best way to find out how your employees feel about your organization is to simply ask them; and once you do, you need to be prepared to take action. Our journey started back in 2017 when we decided to have Energage conduct an employee survey to determine what the data said about DOR’s culture, and what needed improvement,” stated DOR Commissioner Adam Krupp. “We used the 2017 survey results to improve areas that exhibited opportunities for growth.”
DOR’s leadership team reworked the organization’s mission and vision statements in early 2017 to re-align employees’ focus on delivering great government service while building a healthy organizational culture. The long-term vision, to be recognized as the premier tax administrator in the nation and a great place to work, has advanced toward becoming a reality in just two short years, as evidenced by the Top Workplaces recognition.
“Our culture and the success of our agency starts and ends with our team members,” added Commissioner Krupp. “As a group, we decided to change the conversation about our agency, realizing that the first step was to take a look in the mirror and change who we are, how we approach what we do on a daily basis and build a family environment that is rooted within respect, trust and care for one another. Once we reached that point, service and efficiency drastically improved.”
DOR employs approximately 700 dedicated public servants and processes nearly $20 billion from more than 65 active tax types annually. For more information about DOR visit our website at dor.in.gov.
