Actors Theatre of Indiana unveils its 2018-19 season

CARMEL, INDIANA – Actors Theatre of Indiana has announced its lineup of hit shows for the upcoming 2018-19 season, kicking things off with A Comedy of Tenors in September, followed by It’s A Wonderful Life (Live Radio Play), Ruthless and Forbidden Broadway: It’s Back, It’s New, It’s Better Than Ever.

Celebrating its 14th season as Central Indiana’s premier professional, not-for-profit theater organization, ATI continues to bring to the stage a variety of local and national artists dedicated to excellence in theatre production! All shows will be live on stage at our home at The Studio Theater at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel.

Season subscription sales will begin June 8; single ticket sales on July 27.

“We are very excited about next season’s lineup as we continue to ‘bring Broadway to our backyard’ in Central Indiana,” said Don Farrell, Artistic Director and co-Founder of ATI.

See the lineup below:

A COMEDY OF TENORS – September 7-30

Currently sweeping the country and playing to sold-out audiences, the characters from Lend Me A Tenor are back in this fast-paced, over-the-top farce! One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century – as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife, Maria, from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, madcap delight and the music of La Traviata. A Comedy of Tenors evokes the classic screwball comedies of an earlier time.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (Live Radio Play) – Nov 16-Dec 14

In a tribute to both live radio and the beloved Frank Capra American holiday classic film, this endearing and iconic tale comes to captivating life as a live 1940s radio broadcast – and you, the audience, will be right there in the studio! With the help of an ensemble that bring dozens of familiar characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. It will take the help of the lovable angel, Clarence, to show George what life would be like if he wasn’t born. Guiding him to a change of heart and understanding the true spirit of Christmas.

Remember: “Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings”

RUTHLESS – Jan 25-Feb 17

Based on The Bad Seed, this aggressively outrageous musical hit garnered rave reviews during its long Off- Broadway run. Eight-year-old Tina Denmark knows she was born to play Pippi Longstocking and she will do anything to win the part in her school play. Anything includes murdering the leading lady! This spoof has enough plot twists and multiple identities to fill several old movies … the fun comes from the sheer brazenness!

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY – April 26-May 19

In this long-running, Off-Broadway hit musical, Broadway’s greatest musical legends meet Broadway’s greatest satirist in a hilarious, loving, and endlessly entertaining tribute to some of the theatre’s greatest stars and songwriters. This canon of witty and often times brilliant parodies is a time capsule of the American Theatre. Journey through more than 20 Broadway shows and spend the evening with the casts of The Little Mermaid, Newsies, Matilda, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, Les Miserables and so many more! There’s no Broadway like Forbidden Broadway. Even if you’ve never been within 1,000 miles of Broadway, you’ll still love this show!
